Ship's Route
Home Up Starting in Kiev Down the Dnieper Molotschna Zaporozhye and Chortitza Borosenko Coastal Crimea Mennonite Crimea Black Sea Experiences Odessa Family Genealogy

Our ship's route followed the Dnieper river (Dnipro in Ukrainian).  The Dnieper is the 3rd largest river in Europe, flowing to the Black Sea from far to the north from north of Moscow in Russia, and through Belarus.

We flew from Vienna to Kiev (Kyiv in Ukrainian).  After a night and a day, we traveled nearly 36 hours to Dnepropetrovsk including a brief stop at Khanev on the way.  In Dnepropetrovsk we began tracing the legacy of the Mennonites.  The next day, we docked in Zaporozhye where we stayed for four days  of visiting the Mennonite colonies of Chortitza, Molotschna, and Borosenko.

From Zaporozhye we headed for Sevastopol with a brief stop in Kherson.  From Sevastopol we bussed to Yalta and to Mennonite locations in the center of the Crimean peninsula.  From Sevastopol we crossed the Black Sea to Odessa.  Our flight from Odessa went directly to Vienna.
