Although we tended to come looking for Mennonite architecture, the Ukrainian mode of
decoration also caught the eye -- a style of ornamentation, dominantly painted in white
with blue trim. The ducks and gees roam at will, and a hog is often penned up behind.
One herdsman takes the village cattle to pasture, usually one cow per household.
When they come back in down main street, each cow heads for its own barn.
This home is located in Rosenort. 4-Great Grandparents
Warkentin settled here; Peter had come from Prussia as a teen with his brother.
After marriage, he built Rosenort farm number 1, documented in the 1835 census. Others of our ancestry in
Rosenort were Thiessens and Schellenburgs. |
