Lanscrone was home to 2G-grandparents Heinrich and Anna
Friesen Koop. Their son, Heinrich, immigrated to Marion County, Kansas, in
1877. The elder Heinrich helped found the village of Landscrone in 1839 and was a
footnote in the history of the Kleine Gemeinde Mennonite Church. They deliberated
over whether his buildings may have been too ostentatious.
It was much later, in 1909, that the local congregation built a beautiful
church. It was just in the last couple of years that the walls completely came
down. Buried in the rubble, however, were pieces of the floor. The one in the
picture was part of a piece that is too big for tourists to haul away.
The
church also had a lovely gate which remains.
