The ship had to stop in the river in the morning at the city of Dneprozherzhinsk since
there would be a long wait for a bridge downstream. We took a ferry to shore and a
bus for 30 miles or so to get to Dnepropetrovsk. It was a bit drizzly, made worse by
the atmosphere of the industries of Dneprozherzhinsk -- steel mills and factories without
pollution control, the former site of missile factories. It was apparent, however,
that most of the capacity was unused. It was a dreary city that we were please to
get past.
